I'm over here, now...
Moving my newsletter over to Substack.
Hello from a new home!
Substack has been on my mind for a while now, but truth be told, I’ve never really loved it. As much as I appreciate the newsletters I do subscribe to, I thought this was more a place for a certain type of writer, not a Fashion Editor like me.
I’m also not very good at jumping on bandwagons, and that’s what it all seemed like to me, with literally every ex-mag person I know now pimping their own newsletters… However, I started this year with a long think about how I wanted to switch up the way I’ve been working on my site, and a big part of that is exploring new ways to give you more tailored and specific content. The pull to join Substack was pretty clear after that.

So what will change?
Not much, really. I’ll still be sending out my weekly newsletters with links to my fresh content. I’ll also still be producing newsletter-only edits and content. The only change for now is getting more of the same, but with a slightly different look. What about the money bit? Yes, I am exploring monetising the newsletter-specific content I do produce, because after three years of running my own site and helping thousands of woman to shop, I’m finally ready to back myself.
I took a stroll down memory lane recently and looked at the hundreds and hundreds of fashion edits I’ve produced over the years, and I felt really proud. I was proud of the way they looked, proud of the writing that was published, and proud of the fact that I’ve stuck to a formula that works for both me and you. I’m finally ready to say out loud that this is worth something. My time, my expertise, and my work is all worth something. So here we are…
I’m still learning and tweaking as I go
This is all reminding me of the time I hit publish on my first website post, where I was knee-deep in homeschooling during Covid, knee-deep in grief after two significant family deaths within a year of each other, knee-deep in wondering what on earth I’d do after my career in digital media became virtually obsolete. I had no idea what I was doing but I did it anyway. This feels the same but slightly more exciting, because I know that I’ve already built the foundations of something that works and makes a difference.
Yes, my website still exists
For now, the website will be and do exactly what it always has. I know I have a lot of followers who still appreciate the blog-style shopping format over anything else, and I tend to agree. It works well, looks good, and works independently from an algorithm that doesn’t always make a lot of sense. My website is my happy place and will be just as it always has been, with a few exciting launches happening soon.
Thank you for continuing to subscribe, follow, shop, and interact with me in all the available formats — particularly when there are so many copycat “editors” out there now (😏). Forever grateful for your trust.
Onto new things with big appreciation,
Marisa x
